Dr. Kilmer has a masters and doctorate degree in clinical psychology, which he received from Antioch University and the California Graduate Institute, Los Angeles, respectively, in 1998. His Colorado psychology license number is #2806. Before practicing in Colorado, he was licensed in California (PSY 17133) since March, 2001.
Dr. Kilmer has been in private practice in Boulder, Colorado since 2004 and was in private practice in California from 2001. Prior to this he was on staff at the South Bay Community Resource Center as a Registered Psychologist and was responsible for the chemical dependency treatment program. In this setting Dr. Kilmer provided intensive individual therapy, group therapy, and psychological assessment to adults, children and families.
During his doctoral training, Dr. Kilmer worked as a Social Worker for the Los Angeles County Department of Children Family Services in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Kilmer initiated family maintenance and reunification services and was responsible for dependency court reports and foster care placement. In addition, he worked for Aspira Foster and Family Services as a Social Worker Supervisor and his responsibilities included creating Clinical Histories, Needs Assessments, Quarterly Reports, and Social Worker supervision. Dr. Kilmer also provided psychotherapeutic interventions for children. Prior to his social work experience, Dr. Kilmer worked at 1736 Family Crisis Center; which was the original battered woman's shelter in Redondo Beach that evolved into a comprehensive, multi-faceted family treatment center. Clients at the center struggled with issues such as addictions, the effects of trauma, mood disorders, and longstanding significant relationship problems.
