Jessica R. Richards   LPC

Mental Health Professionals

My passion is working with clients who are looking for deeper meaning and change in their lives. This is often due to life transitions or challenging behaviors and emotions that keep bubbling to the surface. It is easy to feel powerless against the chaos of life, and I work with clients to find ownership and awareness of their own thoughts and emotions. This includes my work with families, where the entire family system can stop functioning if even just one member is struggling. I work with couples, parents, families, and individuals. I also specialize in perinatal and postpartum mental health.

Every client is unique and every session is unique. I don’t lay out a map of where you 'need' to go, I follow your lead and offer up new perspectives or ideas that may help you determine where you’d like to go next in your life. I don’t have all the answers, and I would be wary of anyone that says they do!

I have a wealth of experience in helping clients determine what they would like to change and how to go about making that change. I also believe it is vital to explore why there is something in their life they need to change. Why is it that you have a certain behavior? Why is it that you keep having emotional responses you don’t understand? Once we are able to get to the bottom of those questions, your path forward will become much clearer.

I typically come from a psychodynamic and attachment philosophy, which means that I believe our current lives reflect how we absorbed and interpreted our past experiences (especially in childhood). Often this is all done on an unconscious level and clients have only a budding awareness of how this is directly affecting them. It is my role to be your guide as we explore what that means for you.
