I am a native of Georgia but happily call Colorado home. I obtained a B.A. in English from the University of Georgia in 1993. After a career in business, in 2008, I obtained a Master’s of Science in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. I started my private practice work in 2009 and started Therapy Mama® in 2011.
In my practice I work with individuals ages 14 years and older providing, individual, couples, and group therapy. My specialties include reproductive and maternal mental health, eating disorders, ADHD, substance abuse, codependency, depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment to life transitions, loss, grief, and trauma. I also work with couples who want pre-marital counseling, couples transitioning into parenthood, couples dealing with addiction, infidelity, unhealthy communication, and getting stuck in vicious cycles of communication that create breakdown and disconnection in the relationship. I provide supervision to postgraduate therapists as a part of their requirements for Licensure as an LPC and consultation to other clinicians who need guidance in working with reproductive and maternal mental health or any other of my specialties.
In my office I offer a safe environment where I work collaboratively with each client in the exploration and discovery of what gets in the way of living their best life. My therapeutic approach is based on what is considered a Relational Model which focuses on one’s relationship with themselves in relation to others. I help clients learn the practice of Self Compassion based on Kristen Neff's, Ph.D. research and model with a 3 step process that helps clients incorporate the intentional practice of self compassion. Through my own practice of self compassion, and in working with my clients, I believe it can transform one’s experience of life by becoming more emotionally resilient during life's painful moments, instead of getting stuck in suffering.
I am a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Postpartum Support International (PSI), Attention Deficit Disorder Association (ADDA), International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp), and Licensed Professional Counselor Association of Georgia (LPCGA). Additionally, I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor (CPCS), and a Nationally Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist (NBCCH).
