My wish is to help children and adolescents develop a positive sense of self and in order to form the healthy relationships they deserve. Therapy offers a starting place for young people to discover and practice skills that settle strong emotions, focus attention, increase self-awareness and improve expressive communication. I utilize play therapy, art and mindfulness techniques to foster my client's connection to themselves and others. I work closely with parents to build awareness around their own emotional reactions with their children and to practice positive parenting skills.
My therapeutic interventions are informed by neurobiological and attachment principles. I believe (and research shows) that body awareness and self-regulation tools including focused breathing and muscle relaxation can alleviate the anxiety and strong reactions related to trauma and/or symptoms of autism spectrum disorder. These skills are useful for everyone!
When working with children, I will meet with parents by themselves for an initial appointment to gather information about current challenges, strengths and goals for treatment. I am available evenings and weekends so children and youth do not need to miss school for therapy sessions. I am also available to consult with teachers and other providers as needed.
