As a Licensed Professional Counselor, with more than ten years of experience in the field of mental health, I strive to create a unique and collaborate collaborative relationship with each of my clients. Adversity happens to all of us, in many stages of life, in a variety of ways. The effects of adversity can be obvious in the moment, but things get tricky when our situation improves but we still don't feel the way we think we "should". When bad things happen they can stick with us, they can affect the way we feel long after they are over, and they can also take a toll on our relationships. In my work with clients I try to shed some light on the "why", and ultimately use that insight to break the patterns that prevent them from living the life they really want, from realizing their full potential. No, we can't do anything to change our past, but we can change how it influences our present.
Perhaps the height of adversity is experiencing a tragic, or traumatic event. The lasting effects of these events can be challenging to overcome. There are many modalities of therapy that are effective in helping mitigate the lasting effects. I have years of experience helping clients heal from these events. I have specialized training in a field of therapy called EMDR. This approach is highly effective in alleviating the lingering effects of trauma.
