When I inquire with clients about the most healing aspect of our therapy work together, they almost unanimously answer "being witnessed as a whole, actual, and real person" .
My approach to therapeutic work involves art-based expression, insight & mindfulness interventions, and person-centered integrity. With these three core components, I strive to create a spirit of exploration, acceptance, and relational commitment to support each client along his and her individual journey toward healing. I believe that with an open, judgment-free respect, my clients are able to explore and share the "hows" and "whys" of past experience, present dynamics, and future hopes.
Specific dynamics brought from clients' lives to be addressed within our therapy include grief and loss, significant life transitions, living with chronic illness, low self-esteem, LGBTQ identity struggles, and existential/spiritual strivings. With the aid of the art process, present-moment awareness, and empathetic engagement, clients find that the entirety of their experiences - emotional, cognitive, bodily, relational, and spiritual - are all welcome to join each session.
As my client, I will encourage you to practice honest expression of your world, continual reflection on your sense of self, and even healthy confrontation with me. I believe that one of the richest sources of wisdom can be found within the here-and-now exchanges of a healthy partnership. Let's become fellow travelers and explore both your challenges and triumphs together.
I look forward to meeting you in your therapeutic process. ~EMH
