Mental Health Professionals

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who provides individual and family therapy. I have over 20 years of experience working with children, teens and families. My specialties include early childhood mental health (2-6 year olds), play therapy with children 10 and under, as well as, working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. I am passionate about working with children and adolescents to help them learn how to manage their behavior, express their feelings and overcome their own personal challenges. I am excited to help parents learn how to support their children in a more effective and helpful manner. Facilitating children and families heal and grow closer is a humbling experience.

I believe that making a real, lasting change requires team work. Collaboration between children/teens, their parents and therapist is imperative to achieving true growth and healing. I strive to create a space that is warm, understanding and safe for all family members. Often children, teens and their families want to move forward and leave their messy or hard things behind them, but many don’t know how. I know how. Thru a collaborative, honest relationship I can help you and your child learn how to do this and come out stronger and healthier. We can sort through those messy parts, find clarity, and create a sense joy and calmness which will support improved behavior at home and school, as well as, improved self esteem and relationships across the board.

I have diverse education, training and experience working with children and adolescents with their families to address a wide range of complex behaviors or situations.

*Behavioral: I work with children and their families to develop an understanding of behaviors, feelings and thoughts which prevent them from reaching their potential at home or school. These behaviors include: aggression (hitting, biting, throwing things, saying hateful things), anger issues (tantrums, aggression, pouting), acting out behaviors (bullying, teasing, defiance, not following directions), poor self esteem (picking poor friends, being bullied by peers, lack of confidence). I have developed a wide-range of tools and skills to facilitate their learning to create valuable peer relationships, enhance or heal family relationships, improve school performance, and increase self esteem thru developing various skills that facilitate healthy coping, anger management, social relationships, communication, and specific parenting approaches/ techniques that will create and support healthy change in your child.

*Mental health: I have significant training and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of children who have ADD/ADHD, anxiety, autism spectrum disorders, bipolar, depression, oppositional defiant disorder, PTSD and other mental health issues. Understanding mental health issues and creating new ways of managing these behaviors can absolutely be done thru collaboration and patience.

*Transition/adjustment: I have substantial training to help children and teens who are struggling with the stress of life transitions (divorce, birth of a new sibling, adoption, moves, death of a loved one or preparing to go to college/on a mission) and to learn to understand, adapt to these changes and continue to thrive.

*Trauma: Working with children, teens and their families to overcome traumatic life experiences has long been a passion of mine. Trauma can occur from a variety of experiences including car accidents, dog bites, witnessed or perceived violence in the home, school or community, exposure to substance abuse or addictions, medical procedures or conditions, neglect and abuse (emotional, physical and sexual). I have comprehensive training with world renowned experts in the field of trauma and have had extensive experience helping children and their families heal from traumatic events.

If your child needs help to be more successful at home or at school and if you are ready to help your child make changes please contact me to discuss how I might facilitate this process.
