Welcome to FS&S. I am a family therapist by training and an ardent follower of the Family Systems Model in practice. The Family Systems Model holds that a person’s behavior is strongly influenced by the behavior of the people around her, especially in close-knit systems like couples and families. Once we recognize this systemic impact, the focus shifts from assigning individual blame for problems, to harnessing the strength of the entire system to solve them.
What Happens in Family Therapy? Family Therapy is about discovering, de-coding and defusing the relationship patterns that encircle each client's particular problems. We will view problems as belonging not just to one person but rather to the couple or family as a whole. We will explore ways in which each person might be contributing to the problems, whether they realize it or not. And after finding the relationship patterns keeping the problems in their place we will develop concrete, pattern-busting strategies to bring home and practice between meetings.
What next? To arrange for a phone consultation, or if you are ready to schedule an initial meeting, please contact me by phone or email. In situations where individual issues so overwhelm a system that they must be addressed separately I will provide appropriate referrals.
