All behavior arises out of a positive intention and our profound yearning to be love and be loved, have choice, take risks and be free. Life can throw so many curve balls that get in the way of us having the life we want and because everything is a little easier with help sometimes, therapy can be a way to experience a relationship with strong personal regard that provides both skill level tools for change as well as deep transformational shifts. I will meet you where you are in your process of growth and change, discuss the many tools that will be helpful in the therapy process and walk closely with you on this journey.
My foundational teaching is in the humanistic work of Virginia Satir, a world renowned family systems therapist. She said that communication is to relationships what air is to breathing. I interweave the many vehicles of her work in dealing with self esteem, communication, and relationships. I use EMDR to build positive internal resources and deal with PTSD, trauma and addiction. The many tools of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy are also a part of my toolbox in both my individual and group therapy. The key modules are: Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Distress Tolerance.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Addictions counselor. My work has been and still is in community mental health where we deal with the most severe spectrum of all mental health issues. I have done emergency psychiatric work, assessment, case management, individual and group therapy. My training includes Satir Family Systems, EMDR, DBT, CBT, and Motivational Interviewing.
I was in high tech for many years and changed professions finding my true passion in this field. I love what I do!
