Valerie Rudden, MA, LIMHP (NE), LPC (NE and CO), GLCMA
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in both the states of Colorado and Nebraska. I am a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner in the state of Nebraska. I received a Bachelor's in Performing Arts with a Dance concentration in 2004 from Colorado State University and a Masters in Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT)and Graduate Level Certificate in Laban Movement Analysis in 2006 from Columbia College Chicago.
My work experience includes an internship in a Children's hospital where I conducted dance therapy groups, individual, and family sessions for children facing life-altering medical diagnosis. I also completed an internship at a pre-school where I utilized dance therapy and play therapy to assist children in healthy emotional development. I have spent 2 years as a child and family counselor for a Battered Women's shelter in the extended stay program focusing around the themes experienced by children exposed to and then fleeing a violent home. I also spent 3 years working in-home with families as a Multi-Systemic Therapist in Denver treating family and adolescent issues that put the youth at risk of out of home placement. Most recently, I completed a full time position in multiple locations of a community mental health center conducting individual and family outpatient psychotherapy services for ages 0-18.
I grew up with a foot in two worlds; Western Nebraska and the Denver Metro area. My practice currently services clients in both locations. Spending most of my childhood in western Nebraska, I was able to experience city life by spending summers in the Denver metro area. I have never quite figured out which fits best, and luckily I don't have to. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to serve both Denver metro families and rural Nebraska families. Typically, I provide services in Alliance and Scottsbluff NE early in the week and Denver Metro Wed-Friday.
Throughout my life I feel I have been touched and inspired by so many wonderful people, I was drawn to counseling as a way to continue to pass that encouragement on. Subscribing to the notion that no one child or family can "fit" into a box, I encourage confidence in individuality and assisting children and families in exploring their shared values and finding a way to use their "differences" as strengths. In order to assist both children and their parents in self discovery, I utilize both traditional talk therapy techniques as well as creative arts and play therapy interventions.
